Hold the AFP accountable

This petition of certain citizens of Australia draws to the attention of the Senate that:

  • Reputable human rights organisations report significant human rights violations committed by Indonesian police and military in West Papua;
  • These violations are committed with impunity;
  • The Australian Federal Police and Australian Defence Forces provide substantial support to the Indonesian police and military, including D88, Brimob and Kopassus, the worst human rights offenders;
  • The nature and extent of this support is not fully disclosed;
  • No conditionality or benchmarks are attached to this support to ensure Indonesian police and military respect human rights

We therefore ask the House to call on the Government to:

  • Condemn human rights violations everywhere, including in West Papua;
  • Vigorously raise concerns about human rights violations committed in West Papua with the Indonesian Government;
  • Take action at the United Nations to hold the Indonesian Government fully accountable for human rights violations committed by its security forces in West Papua;
  • Ensure that Australian Government aid does not enable human rights violations anywhere, including in West Papua;
  • Initiate an independent audit of the effectiveness and human rights risks associated with all programs involving Indonesian police and military receiving Australian Government funding.

    After more than 50 years of genocide happening to these people that helped save outbdiggers during WWII isn’t about time these people were cherished instead of being slaughtered at the hands of these invaders? Not only this when are Australian Companies going to be held accountable for their part in ripping off the wealth of these people? Then we have an American Company that has the second largest Gold Mine in the World in West Papua. No wonder the Americans don’t want to help these poor buggars out. What a disgrace this Nation has become. My father Reginal Anderson fought in WWI he died ANZAC Day 1988 he would be tuning over in his grave! Just deplorable!!

    The Australian Military also trained the most brutal violator of Human rights in the Philippines, General Palparan and they are still training the Philippine military to date. Look at the human rights record of Duterte now. In his just over 2 years in office, his gov’t is already accused of more than 30,000 EJK’s.

    Please, AFP, we know this is something the Govt. possibly Home Affairs, will have directed you to do. But we are all responsible for our own actions, the type of energy we put into the world. A F P should be A Force For Good. “The Standards you walk past are the standards you accept”.please think about what you are doing, and please demonstrate to the Indonesian Force and the local inhabitants that leadership towards mutual respect, fairness and “doing the right thing” that a successful society requires. Because if we forget history and again allow Might to Misrule, we are creating disaster. And Training an occupation force to more effectively fight local people concerned for their lives, homelands, environment and welfare is empowering the idea that the rule of the gun is what Australia supports. Please, please be careful in this
